Arnel Pineda, Angat Pinoy!

By Jacaranda On January 2, 2009 1 Comment

For those who don’t know yet, Arnel Pineda (who is a Pinoy) is the new front man of the 80’s legendary rock band “The Journey”

Yeah, you might have heard or read this post before that’s because this is a re-post from my previous or other blog.

From the unknown (or locally famous) Arnel Pineda, comes the international sensation and lead singer of a very famous rock band!

Before there was none (or few) website for Arnel Pineda.. now there are more than a handfull…And I’m thinking that even though Arnel Pineda is the front man of Journey, he’s still a filipino and should have a page here in Pinoy Banda.

(By the way, learn to Download Arnel Pineda’s MP3 here http://www.pinoybanda.com/download-mp3-movies.html for FREE Baby!!)

Arnel Pineda’s Childhood

Arnel Pineda’s singing career began at an early of 5 when he was joining the amateur singing contest. His parents encourage him in joining, both of them are tailors are together with 3 brothers they are struggling hard to have a comfortable life.

When he was 12 his mother died and eventually his father was forced to send his 3 other brothers to live with their relatives. He had to quit school and collect scrap metal, bottles and newspapers at the pier in Manila to earn money. Life for him and his family become very hard. He slept in the streets and sometimes in some wooden chair of his relatives.

The Road To Success

Many qoute the story of his success , and here is another story…

1987-1988 – With his talent in singing, he set aside his dream for becoming an Engineer and joined the band Ljos (which become “Hijos”) as the band’s lead singer. With “Hijos” he received an award as the Best Vocalist in the World Band Explosion

After Hijos, he then joined the band “Amo” which later became “New Age”.

New Age then performed regularly in Hongkong for several years. He returned in the Philippines in 1999 where Warners Bro released his self titled album Arnel Pineda.

The band then added a female vocalist side by side with Arnel and renamed the band “Most W@nted”. Their regular gig was still at The Cavern Club in Hong Kong. They later renamed their band “The Visitors”.

From Zoo to Journey

Arnel Pineda together with Monet Cajipe, the guitarist who had been in all of Pineda’s previous bands, was encouraged by Bert De Leon to move back in the Philippines. They formed The Zoo with Emil Bondoc on bass, Edgar Mendoza on keyboards, and Makoy Alcantara on drums. They signed on with de Leon’s company, Sundance Entertainment Corporation.

It is with The Zoo that Neal Schon of Journey saw their uploaded videos on Youtube. The Zoo has been covering songs by Journey, Survivor, Aerosmith, Led Zeppelin, Air Supply, The Eagles… Neal Schon sent an email to the one who uploaded those videos and asking for the contact details of Arnel. At first Arnel was in doubt. He thought that these was an elaborate joke, a hoax and not real until Neal Schon called him and asked for him to audition as the Journey’s lead vocalist…

He got the part and the now the history is being written….

Check out wikipedia’s article on Arnel Pineda for more detailed information.. Thanks you! Mabuhay si Arnel!

Eraserheads Movie a Success

By Jacaranda On November 27, 2008 No Comments

Last night’s premier of the Eraserhead’s concert movie was a success, according to the news!

Present during the premier was Ely Buendia, Marcus Adoro and Buddy Zabala.. Raymund Marasigan was not able to attend.. but hey, it was still successful..

Here’s what we read at GMA News:

Ely Buendia, Marcus Adoro, and Buddy Zabala graced the premiere night of Eraserheads Reunion Concert: The Movie held last November 24 at SM Megamall. The former members of the Eraserheads—minus Raimund Marasigan—were there to watch the first public screening of the concert turned movie, which is now currently being screened in SM cinemas nationwide.

The entertainment press asked Ely to give his reaction to the fact that their August 30 concert will now be shown on the big screen for the benefit of those who were not able to watch them perform at The Fort.

“Uhm, nabigla ako, e,” admits the current vocalist of the band Pupil. “Mabilisan, pero oo, ang daming naghihintay din ng movie.”

According to Sony-BMG, they got the idea to turn the concert into a movie about a month ago.

Ely expressed his excitement for the historic project. “It’s the first time na gagawin ‘to dito sa Pilipinas, so the band is very excited and we’re very proud and we’re very happy that Sony-BMG thought of this. I hope everyone will have fun and enjoy the movie.”

How does it feel to be watching himself on the big screen? “Siyempre mas relaxed ako ngayon. Wala masyadong pressure. Kumbaga part din ako ng audience ngayon,” he said.

Ely managed to crack jokes before the screening of Eraserheads Reunion Concert: The Movie. He and his former bandmates went up the stage to give a short talk to the audience. “I’m sure excited na kayong panoorin ang pelikula. Ako ang pinaka-excited kasi first time ko mapapanood ang concert. Late ako nun, e,” he jokes.
