Slapshock- Adios

By snowy_023 On August 29, 2010 No Comments

Nag-iiba na ang iyong anyo woo!!!
Nagtataka sa mga kilos mo woo!!!

Refrain:

Sa tuwing lumalayo ika’y lumalapit
Nalunod ka sa pag-ibig
Di na magbabago pag-ikot ng mundo
Tuwing nakatingin sa’yo
Saan ka ba? liligaya? tapos na ba?
Ang lahat ng ito woo!!!

Chorus:

Iniwan ka sa pag idlip
Ako’y di na magbabalik
Paalam na sa’yo
(adios!!! )

Nagtataka mundo ko’y nag-iba haah!!!
Nagtatago nalilito sa’yo woo!!

+rep.ref. & cho.+

Iniwan ka sa pag idlip
Ako’y di na magbabalik
Paalam na sa’yo

Asian Treasure by Cueshe

By snowy_023 On August 19, 2010 No Comments

Ano ba ang hanap mo
Pwede bang katulad ko
Ang ibigin mo ooh

Di mo na kailangan pang
Pumunta sa dulo ng walang hanggan
Para sumaya

[Refrain]
Ipikit mo lang ang iyong mata
Ang pusong mo makakita
Ng yamang di inaasahan

[Chorus]
Ika’y ginto sa puso ko
Sana ito’y malaman mo
Wala nang yaman sa mundo
Ang mas hihigit sa yo
Wala nang hahanapin pa
Sa yo ako’y kumpleto na
Walang yamang mas hihigit sa yo

Iwan mo na ang nagdaan
Matutong wag muling masaktan ang damdamin
Ako’y iyong pansinin

Di man ako tulad nila
Walang porma, walang pera
Pero mahal kita, ika’y mahalaga
At iingatan pa

[Repeat refrain and chorus]

Walang yamang mas hihigit sa yo

Kamikazee members express love for body art at Tinta 55

By snowy_023 On August 3, 2010 No Comments

For Jay Contreras, Led Zeppelin Tuyay and Puto Astete, getting inked to become a walking canvass is a higher form of expression not limited to artists or musicians like them.

That is why the members of the popular band Kamikazee opened their own tattoo shop, Tinta 55, at the artist-friendly Maginhawa Street in UP Teachers’ Village.

“Bata pa ko sabi ko na sa sarili ko gusto ko magpa-tattoo kasi may tinitingnan ako na picture dati. Yung unang tattoo ko pinalagay ko sa kaklase kong babae sa UP Fine Arts dati. Meron kasi siyang machine (I was still young when I told myself that I like to get a tattoo of a picture I often saw. My first tattoo was done by a girl classmate at UP Fine Arts. She has a tattooing machine),” Jay says, showing a star tattoo on his upper left arm.

Tinayo namin ‘to not as business, kasi we look at tattoos as a form of art expression and gusto naming magkaroon ng shop na affordable para sa mga tao (We put this shop not as a business because we look at tattoos as a form of art expression. We wanted a shop that is affordable to people),” he adds.

When the shop opened in December 2008, most clients were celebrities and friends of the band including actresses Angelica Panganiban and Diana Zubiri, as well as members of local bands like Pupil, Franco, Urbandub and Parokya ni Edgar.

“Yung iba libre kasi libreng promotion na rin sa shop pag nakita ng iba at nagtanong kung san nila pinagawa yung tattoo (We gave free tattooing for the sake of promoting the shop, especially when people ask where the tattoo was done),” says Jay, whose latest tattoo is a floral-inspired design covering his throat down to his chest.

Less than two years after, Tinta 55 has been inking clients seven days a week. The four in-house and guest artists grew to seven. Most clients would schedule after-office sessions and pay a minimum of P1,000 for a simple black design or P1,500 for a colored design.

The age group of Tinta 55 clients ranges from 18-year-old first-timers to 50-year-old people looking to add on to their body art. One time, a group of 40-year-old dads went to the shop to get inked one after the other.

“Nung binuksan namin, yung kinikita para sa supplies and bills pero ngayon kumikita na at saka may reputation na yung mga artists (When we opened the shop, our earning were spend for supplies and bills but now, the shop is earning. Our artists also built a good reputation for themselves),” says Jay, referring to the Muziklaban awards and other citations earned by the shop’s artists.

One of their artists, Dyun Tats Depasupil, Jay’s former classmate in UP, started as a guest artist at Tinta 55. He still maintains his own tattoo shop in Fairview.

Dyun says more Filipinos have accepted the meaning of a tattoo beyond decorative purposes. Some say tattoos served as amulets, status symbols, declarations of love, signs of religious beliefs, and adornments during ancient times.

He shares that more and more people are having “real” tattoos instead of simply henna. “Tattooing is now accepted as an art form to express individuality,” he says.

For artists like him, tattooing also serves as a challenge because unlike painting on paper or canvass, the human body is much more delicate. Dyun says getting a tattoo is most painful when done on one’s ribcage, throat, neck, the back of the kneecap and the back of the hand.

That is why sanitation is important in all tattoo procedures, adds Jay.

The shop applies for an annual license issued by the Department of Health. Disposable needles and gloves, autoclave sterilization (which heats up reusable stainless ink tubes for 30 minutes at 150 degrees Celsius), UV sterilizer, and tongue depressors, are used.

“It is standard procedure that when a patient gets irritation after the process, we refer them to a dermatologist. As for the inks, we dispose used ink immediately because when you dip the needle there, it mixes with your client’s blood. We also advise clients to stay indoors often, especially if the tattoo is fresh to prevent the color from fading or to apply sun block if they really have to stay outdoors.”

Jay points out that their shop does not allow tattooing of minors.

Aside from being a source of income, Dyun says tattooing forms a “bond of trust” between the client and artist. For him, tattooing is not just a hobby but a profession that requires continuous learning and mastery of the craft and its technologies.

“You have to remember, a tattoo is permanent and there is a story to every design. As an artist, I am proud to make that design a permanent part of them.”

All About Kamikazee

By snowy_023 On July 28, 2010 No Comments

Kamikazee is a Filipino rock band which composes of five members such as Jay Contreras (lead vocalist), Jomal Linao (guitar/back-up vocals), Led Zeppelin Tuyay (guitars), Jason “Puto” Astete (bassist), and Allan “Bords” Burdeos (drummer).

They have firstly met in college at the College of Fine Arts of the University of the Philippines Diliman. Kamikazee’s early gigs were mostly campus events in UP Diliman like the annual UP Fair. Before they were signed, they went by the name “Kamikazee Cornflakes” in 2000, which was eventually shortened to its current state as “Kamikazee” was easier to remember. Their early shows included renditions of the songs “Tsinelas”, a cover of Ariel Rivera’s “Sana Kahit Minsan”, and Britney Spears’ Lucky.

In 2003 is proved to be the year of reckoning for Kamikazee as they also picked up the Listener’s Choice Award at the 2003 NU 107 Rock Awards function, while Allan Burdeos won the Drummer of the Year trophy. Two years since, they were names as the year’s Best Live Act at 2005 NU 107 Rock Awards. They also gave an electrifying performance of the hit song ‘Chicksilog’ that was nominated as the Song of the Year. The song reach the #1 position at NU 107’s Midnight Countdown and ended at the #9 position of the Yearend Countdown for 2005.

The band’s name speaks volumes of the band’s philosophy – pure passion and fearless music. The music they make will leave you exhausted, exhilarated and yearning for more…and Kamikazee is fast gaining the reputation as being one of the most explosive bands in the Filipino music arena. Their band influences are Parokya ni Edgar, Cheese, The Eraserheads, Deftones, New Found Glory, Slipknot, and Pantera.

Cueshé is currently composed of Jay Justiniani on vocals, Ruben Caballero on vocals and guitar, Fritz Labrado on bass guitar, Jovan Mabini on lead guitar, Jhunjie Dosdos on keyboards and Mike Manaloto on drums.

In March 2005, the group decided to push through the “rock mecca of the Philippines”, the city of Manila which has led their career to take-off. Hit singles (”Stay,” “Sorry.” “Ulan,” “Can’t Let You Go” and “24 Hours.”), a double platinum album (”Half Empty, Half Full”), accolades (Favorite Artist, Favorite Group and Favorite Song—for the song “Stay” at the 1st MYX Music Awards; SMART Texters’ Choice Hitmaker of the Year at the 2006 MTV Pilipinas Awards; Band of the Year at 2006 SOP PasiklaBand Awards; Best Breakthrough Artist at 2005 SOP Music Awards), sold-out gigs and concerts—all achieved in a span of one year.

Less than a year later, the band released its second album, “Back To Me.” This new album is set to validate[attribution needed] the band’s status as pop idols as they release ten new tracks, all of which were written by the members themselves. Their first single was of the same title, and their second single was “Borrowed Time”. Being fans of The Beatles, they also did a re-make of the John Lennon hit single, Jealous Guy.

The band also made a contribution to the tribute album to The Eraserheads, “Ultraelectromagneticjam”, in which they sung their own rendition of “Hard To Believe”.

The band also recorded the theme song of the Philippine television series “Asian Treasures” entitled “Walang Yamang (Mas Hihigit Sa “Yo),” which is included in the repackaged version of their album “Back To Me.”..

Slapshock: The undisputed kings of rap metal

By snowy_023 On July 8, 2010 No Comments

Slapshock was the leader of the emergent scene that benefited from the fickle taste of rock fans. The band is composed of five young men – Jamir Garcia on vocals, Lee Nadela on bass, Lean Ansing and Jerry Basco on guitars, and Chi Evora on drums. With the release of their groundbreaking album Fourth Degree Burn, Slapshock was able to provoke reactions from the rock scene. One side was wildly enthusiastic with the arrival of rock’s new heroes. The other side of the rock community was absolutely not going to have any of it. Slapshock’s style was reminiscent of what was becoming big in the international scene back then: rap-metal and rapcore (or even mallcore to some people) bands like Korn and Limp Bizkit were making hay with top-selling albums.

Slapshock hit the scene with the highly infectious “Agent Orange.” It was hardly poetry but it had a catchy tune. The chants of “Agent Orange, get up! Get up! Get up!” would definitely get the people in the mosh pit going. The band had a very tough image and in a time that the rock scene was slowly evolving to a different version of hard rock, such a departure from the status quo was a sexy alternative.

The band would become one of the most sought after live acts in the gig circuit. Slapshock was relentless in pushing their name and their albums and their label absolutely loved them for it. Aside from “Agent Orange,” the other cuts from the debut album also became radio and concert favorites. The gems from the first album included “Evil Clown” and “Sick Curtain.”

The lyrics didn’t really mean much, and for a lot of people, this was a major sticking point. While Jamir Garcia had a very strong and visceral growl, some of his shortcomings in the enunciation of certain sounds – most notably the soft th sound – made listening to his singing a lot less impressive and listenable.
