Orange and Lemons’ Moonlane Gardens – Beatles Connections

orangelemons.jpg

This is a very nice album for all Orange and Lemons speaking for both the fans and not-so fans. Congratulations to the group (and I hope I’m invited to the celebration party! ;)

This is another themed album just like Eraserhead‘s Fruitcake, Bryan Adams ‘A Day Like Today’ and of course the greatest album of all time, The Beatles “Sgt. Pepper’s Lonely Hearts Club Band”.

Being a very big Beatles fan myself, I listened to Moonlane Gardens looking for any Beatles connections in the songs – both in lyrics and in melody – because we all know that the geniuses behind Orange and Lemons are also big Beatles fan (right?).

So, without further a-do… Here’s what I think are the Beatles association to Orange and Lemon’s Moonlane Gardens…. Let’s start with the Intro/Prologue… Track 1:

Prologue

3 things reminds of the prologue. First “Across the Universe“. I’m actually waiting for the birds to chirp and fly away. Check out version released in the charity album World Wildlife Fund.

Second one was Asin’s “Itanong Mo Sa Mga Bata”. The one where the children are laughing before the intro of the song was played.

Third one, intro of “Free as a Bird“, right before Ringo bashes his snare drum.

Moonlane Gardens

Perfect way to open the album. The group is like welcoming the fans to wherever that place is. I’m actually humming it right now… “Welcome to the garden my friend. This is where the broken hearts mend…”.

The Beatles connection? The first line: “There’s a place where the moon is under the sea”… The Beatles have a version of “There’s a Place” from their first album – Please, Please Me.

It’s About Time

Intro riff sounds like … umuwi ka na baby… but the whole song is good! Clems (and/or McCoy) really sounds like (Julian/John) Lennon. Cool!

Ang Katulad Mo’y Walang Katulad

I’m sorry this but this song is very much like Sting’s ‘Until’, from the soundtrack of the movie ‘Kate and Leopold‘. The mood and the style of singing are the same. The melody though reminds me of “Being For The Benefit of Mr. Kite”.

Let Me

You Tube Vid of the Song

This is my favorite song in the album! Why? I sang this song to my wife. This is one of our favorite song.

We all heard this song from a shampoo commercial. When I heard that song then, I searched the internet for the lyrics or an mp3 copy of the song. Not knowing the title nor the artists, I was searching blind.

Beatles connection? This is the most John Lennon-ish song in the album, imho.

Moonjive

Abbey Road

First glance of the lyrics, all I can say is… Abbey Road album… I Want You (You’re So Heavy). Nice work McCoy!

Eleven Minutes

Be With You

“Don’t Let Me Down”ish bass line. :-) Sorry, that’s the first thing came to mind. It is very pretty song.

Buhay At Pag-Ibig

Double fantasy

Reminds me of John’s Beautiful Boy. The song was written for his son Sean, his only child with Yoko Ono . Also those little screams is like those in Revolution.

700 miles

Nice poem by Clem… Please tell me your inspiration.

Ode To Love

“I love you” in the end…. very Beatles.

Fade

Another favorite. Reminds me of U2′s ‘With or Without You’. Probably because of JM’s pulsating steady bass lines.

I like the line ‘Somewhere, Somehow we will find each other’ line. Gave me goosebumps.

I Feel Good, I Feel Fine

There is a very well-written riff Beatle song called “I Feel Fine” (where FRIENDS’ main sountrack – I’ll Be There For you – was based on). Ace’s drumming here is like Ringo’s.. (wink)

The Story Must Come To a Sudden End

A New Day

“wont you come out an play” ? …. Dear Prudence.

Epilogue

Are you not reminded of the ‘Bed-in‘? Give Peace A Chance? I sure am!

Over all, I think Clems and McCoy are very John Lennon – Let Me/I Feel Good/Fine. The Beatles influence can be heard and felt in every song. Just like the Beatles, all of the songs talks about love, passion, caring and longing to be loved.
